Safety & Health at Work
We prioritise a safe and healthy workplace and continuously strengthen our OSH policies, training, and practices.
Each business unit has a Safety & Health Committee (SHC) under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, comprising: |
Chairman |
Secretary |
Management Representatives |
Employee Representatives |
Freedom of Association & Collective Bargaining
We respect employees’ rights to form and join trade unions of their choice and to bargain collectively.
Constructive union relations support productivity, engagement, and long-term performance. |
Improving the Quality of Life
| We foster belonging and wellbeing across our estates and mills through: |
| |
| Community & Staff Activities |
| Festival celebrations, sports events, and social programmes via our in-house Sports/Welfare Club. |
| Food Security Initiatives |
| Company-supported vegetable and fruit plots (seedlings, inputs, and biomass provided), with harvests shared among employees. |
| Fair essentials pricing |
| Regular monitoring of basic goods at estate grocery shops to ensure reasonable prices. |
| Diversity & Inclusivity |
| We provide equal opportunity regardless of gender, race, religion, or socioeconomic background and actively build an inclusive culture through engagement and development. |
| While plantation work has traditionally been male dominated, we encourage women’s participation across all roles and maintain Gender Committees at every estate and mill to support our female workforce. |
| Contribution to Society |
| We invest in the communities where we operate—supporting education, infrastructure, culture, and social development—and prioritise job opportunities for local villagers via direct employment, internships, and contract awards. |
- In partnership with a local orphanage, we developed an oil palm estate on its land; profits support the orphanage and an Al-Yatama Berhad development fund.
- In Sarawak, we develop Native Customary Rights (NCR) land to share long-term benefits with indigenous landowners. As at 31 January 2025, we manage 2,774 ha under the NCR project (2,449 ha planted), providing sustainable income to ~700 local landowners.
- KLRB is an active donor and supporter of the MEOA MYTC program, a collaboration between the Malaysian Estate Owners' Association (MEOA) and the Montford Youth Training Centre (MYTC) to provide training for marginalised youth, equipping them with the skills needed for staff-level roles in the plantation sector.
- We host trainees from universities and training centres, with suitable candidates offered employment upon completion.
